The Spirit of Comfort and The Prince of Peace … by Rav Sha’ul (the Nazarene) …

An excerpt from the book The Nazarene by Rav Sha’ul

I have been teaching a series on the titles inherited by Yahusha the Messiah, I have covered:

The Melchi Tsedek
The King of Kings

In this teaching, we are going to address the title Prince of Peace. We see Isaiah speak of the coming Messiah by multiple titles:

Isaiah 9:6-7
"For to us a child is born (born means human birth, begotten means birth as a son of Yahuah. Isaiah is reading The Heavenly Scroll the sign of Virgo), to us a son (of man) is given (constellation Orion), and the government shall be on his shoulders (he will be King of Kings sign of LEO) and he will be called Wonderful Counselor (High Priest i.e. Tsedek), (the perfect image of) Mighty Elohim (Divine Representative of Yahuah h430), (fore) Father of Everlasting (life, he is the First Born of the DEAD, first fruites of the resurrection), and Prince of Peace (Mediator of the Covenant of Peace)." There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, on the Throne of David (Melchi) and over His Kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness from then on and forevermore (he fulfills The Heavenly Scroll where Yahuah has given him Glory as King of Creation before the world was).

We are told that Isaiah was saying that Yahusha was Yahuah in that he was the perfect image of Elohim.  The first and primary definition of Elohim is a representative of Yahuah’s Divine Majesty and Power which is the context in which Isaiah spoke.

We know that Yahusha inherited every title he was given.

Hebrews 1:4
Yahusha, has become (after being perfected Hebrews 5:8-9, he was not born that way) as much better than the angels/representative (elohim that came before him), as He has inherited (through bloodlines) a more excellent name/title (Melchi Tsedek, King of Kings, Prince of Peace, Mighty Image of and Divine Representative of Yahuah's Magesty and Power, Forefather of Everlasting Life, Wonderful Counselor/High Priest, etc.) than they.
Philippians 2:9
Therefore Yahuah has highly exalted Yahusha (after his resurrection, not human birth) and bestowed on him (through carefully cultivated bloodlines) the name/title that is above every name (Melchi Tsedek, King of Kings, Prince of Peace, Mighty Image of and Divine Representative of Yahuah's Magesty and Power, Forefather of Everlasting Life, Wonderful Counselor/High Priest, etc.)

The word for “name” in Hebrew means “reputation” or title. It is Strong’s h8034. ‘Shem’. Below is the definition, notice it means “renown, famous, memorial, report, reputation” etc.

Strong’s Concordance – ‘shem’: a name
NASB Translation byword (1), defamed* (1), defames* (1), fame (8), famous (3), famous* (1), memorial (1), Name (3), name (654), name’s (11), name* (4), named (7), named* (66), names (80), renown (6), renowned (1), report (1), repute (1), same names (1).

In what way is Yahusha known as The Prince of Peace? How did Yahusha inherit this title?

Yahusha was the decedent of and inherited the promises made to the House of Zadok. He was a Zadokite High Priest in the line of Aaron through Zadok. Yahuah made a promise to the House of Zadok that would find its fulfillment in the Messiah.

Numbers 25
11 Phinehas the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron the Kohen. Behold I give to him (and his descendent Yahusha) my Covenant of Peace (to become the Prince of Peace and Mediator of the Renewed Covenant of Peace), and these promises be his and his progeny after him (a) Covenant of Everlasting Priesthood in turn of his zealousness for of his Elohim, and he (and his progeny was given the right to) atoned for the sons of Israel.

We read also in Malachi the same promise of the coming “messenger of the covenant of peace” or Prince of Peace:

Malachi 3
1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and Yahuah, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger (Prince of Peace) of the covenant (of Peace Numbers 25:12), whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith Yahuah of hosts.

Yahusha fulfilled that promise to El’azar through Phinehas; which was a promise made to the Zadok Line of High Priest. Yahusha was “the one this promise was given too”. Giving Yahusha the authority to mediate a “Covenant of Peace” in his name… The Yahushaic Covenant; and to make atonement as High Priest! We see that Yahuah made Yahusha into a “covenant” called The Yahushaic Covenant:

Isaiah 42
6 "I am Yahuah, I have called you in righteousness (to walk The Way of the Nazarene, fulfilling The Law through Mikveh Matthew 3:15, being born again with fire John 3:3-8), I will also hold you by the hand and watch over you (to fulfill the Adoption Covenant Zechariah 3:7), And I will appoint you (Yahusha) as a covenant (of peace Numbers 25:12) to the people (The Yahushaic Covenant), As a light (life example John 13:15, fulfillment of The Heavenly Scroll where the Sun is a metaphore of The Light of the World) to the nations (to walk The Way in his footsteps 1 Peter 2:21)

Note: for more information on The Adoption Covenant, click here.

We see John the Great Prophet, was foretold to be the mentor of the Messiah and that the “mission” of the Messiah would be to bring “peace” in Luke 1:79.

Luke 1
79 to shine (be an example, the Light fulfilling The Heavenly Scroll) on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path (The Way) of peace (The Prince of Peace Isaiah 9:6-7).”

Then we see Sha’ul, also teach this was Yahusha’s role in the covenant that bears his name, to remove the “enmity” between the two houses of Israel and unite them in “peace”:

Ephesians 2
14 For Yahusha is our (Prince of) Peace, who hath made both (Jews/House of Judah and Gentiles/House of Israel) one (through the Covenant of Peace Numbers 25:12), and hath broken down (the death decrees in The Law which were the) the middle wall of partition (enmity) between us; 15 Having abolished (nailed the death decrees to the stake Colossians 2:14) in his (sinful) flesh (offering himself as a sin offering Romans 8:3) which (the Death Decrees that held us capitive to death Romans 7:6 and Hebrews 2:15) were the cause of the enmity (our fear of death Hebrews 2:15) toward the law, commandments and ordinances. For to make in himself of two (sticks, The House of Judah and The House of Israel Ezekiel 37:16), one new man (Remnant Israel; Isaiah 10:20, Romans 11), so making peace (between the two houses and heal the long standing breach).

You see, it was the Spirit of Fear that created enmity between Yahuah and His Children!  Yahusha paid the debt and  brought us a Spirit of Comfort.  The Comforter…

We began to resent The Law because it brought death due to the death decrees and our heart was hardened toward Yahuah. There was no “peace” or “grace”!

Romans 8:6-7
6 For to be carnally minded (obey by the letter out of fear of the death decrees) is death, but to be spiritually minded (obey by the Spiritual Intent of the Law) is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind (ritual obedience out of fear of death) is enmity against Yahuah; for it is not subject to The (Spiritual Intent of the) Law of YHVH, nor indeed can be.

Note: for information on this topic of obedience to the Intent of the Law, please see my book The Law and The Pauline Doctrine. Free here.

Yahusha is our Prince of the Covenant of Peace

Yahusha’s role as Prince of Peace is to walk The Way and fulfill The Law, die innocent in the eyes of Yahuah, thereby defeating the Law of Sin and Death (the Law with active death decrees i.e. the Law in the Mosaic Covenant). By dying innocent, Yahusha covered the death decrees in The Law, turning The Law into The Law of the Spirit of Life in The Yahushaic Covenant.

8 See to it that no one (Greek Christian) takes you captive through philosophy (pagan ‘Logos’) and empty deception (doctrine of Incarnation), according to the (pagan) tradition of men (dating back to Tammuz in Babylon), according to the elementary principles (false spirits i.e. The Spirit of the False Messiah and The Spirit of Error) of the world, rather than according to The Yahushaic Covenant. 9 For in covenant with Yahusha all the fullness of Deity dwells in you in bodily form (when he was Miveh’d by John and so too in us Ephesians 3:19), 10 and in The Yahushaic Covenant you have been made complete (in keeping the Law and in fullness of Deity, Ephesians 3:19, when we follow The Way through Mikveh), and Yahusha is the head over all rule and authority (as the first born son of Yahuah through inheritance and preeminence Colossians 1:18); 11 and in The Yahushaic Covenant you were also CIRCUMCISED (in your heart) with a circumcision made without hands (Sha’ul is teaching the transposition of The Law into the Spirit), in the removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of the same Spirit of Holiness (righteous keeping of the Intent of The Law Ezekiel 36:25-27) that is in the Messiah; 12 having been buried with Yahusha in MIKVEH(of Living Water through Mikveh), in which (after OFFEREING your life as a Living Sacrifice Romans 12:1) you were also raised up with Yahusha (into a newness of life Romans 6:4) through faith in the working of Yahuah, who raised Yahusha from the dead (Sha’ul is saying we have been given the Spirit of Holiness that was given to Yahusha as a guarantee when he was Mikveh’d, which is the power of Yahuah that raised Yahusha). 13 When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh (having not walked The Way of Mikveh, Circumcision, and Offering), Yahuah made you (your dead Spirit) alive (again being Born Again) together with Yahusha, (and Yahuah) having forgiven us all our transgressions (by the blood of the Passover Lamb), 14 (Yahuah) having canceled out the certificate of debt (as promised in Zechariah Chapter 3) consisting of (His judicial DEATH) decrees against us (found in The Law), which was hostile to us (because we transgressed His Commands and Ordinances); and Yahuah has taken the death decrees in The Law out of the way, having nailed those death decrees to the stake (with Yahusha and forgiven our sin as He promised Yahusha in Zechariah Chapter 3). 15 When Yahusha had disarmed the rulers and authorities (by dying innocent in the eyes of Yahuah after being Mikveh'd, Circumcised, and offering his life as a Living Sacrifice), Yahusha made a public display of them (defeating The Law of Sin and Death), having triumphed over them through (the power of) Yahuah (who raised Yahusha from the grave).

In this way, Yahusha mediates a new covenant called the Covenant of Peace whereby he reconciles all things back to his Father.

Colossians 1
20 and through (covenant with) Yahusha (The Yahushaic Covenant), Yahuah would reconcile to Himself all things, whether on earth or in The Heavenly Scroll, making peace by the blood of Yahusha’s sacrifice.

What Sha’ul is saying in plain English in Ephesians 2 and Colossians 2 is this:

Yahusha is the Prince of Peace, being the mediator of The Covenant of Peace. Yahusha abolished our hatred toward (enmity) The Law because we feared the death decrees in The Law. Yahusha nailed those death decrees to the stake in his own flesh by dying innocent in the eyes of Yahuah. Yahusha’s blood broke down the “dividing wall” which was our fear of death by defeating The Law of Sin and Death. He united us in loving obedience to The Law bringing peace between the two houses and healing the breach. Now (with the death decrees covered)  The Law of The Spirit (which teaches us to obey The Law) leads to Life because the weakness in The Law (our sin) has been covered and now The Law leads to eternal life in The Yahushaic Covenant.

The Spirit of Comfort in The Covenant of Peace

As we just read in Romans 8:6, to be spiritually minded is life and peace! This Spirit Sha’ul is referring to, is the comforter that Yahusha and Ezekiel prophesied would come upon us. We have a spirit of comfort, now that the death decrees are covered, and we no longer live in bondage to the fear of sin and death. Yahusha has taken away our Spirit of Fear and replaced it with a Spirit of Comfort. Sha’ul is saying that Yahusha “nailed the death decrees that demand our death” in the Law to the stake (covering them with the blood of the Lamb). Yahusha fulfilled his end of the agreement in Zachariah 3, and was as obedient unto death as High Priest, transforming the Law of Yahuah into the Law of the Spirit of Life as Yahusha has removed our enmity (fear of death) toward the Law.
Through Yahusha the Messiah, those in covenant with him are found in perfect obedience to the Law (the righteous requirements are fulfilled in us, just like they were in Yahusha when he was Mikveh’d to “fulfill all righteousness in him”). This is because Yahuah forgives our transgression, and covers the ‘certificate of debt’ against us that justified our physical death. The promise for obedience to the Law is eternal life, so once that certificate of debt is forgiven… we defeat death through resurrection exactly like Yahusha did! Now, in the Yahushaic Covenant, the Law has been transposed to the Law of the Spirit of loving obedience that leads to eternal life.

We are taught the Comforter is some type of unique entity, some Divine emanation from Yahuah … a self-sustaining “Ghost” or Spirit… that Yahusha “sent” as if he commanded some “being” to come to Earth.

Is this true? Or is the Comforter the Spirit inside us that replaced our Spirit of Fear now that we no longer fear death?
We see Yahusha prophecy that those who mourn (the death of loved ones) will be “comforted” in The Yahushaic Covenant. Because death is no longer “the end”, we defeat death in covenant with him.

Matthew 5
4 Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted.

This Spirit of Comfort is the long-standing promise that Yahuah made through His prophets concerning the coming Renewed Covenant. That He would pour out His Spirit. In The Yahushaic Covenant, The Law in the Mosaic Covenant with active decrees known as The Law of Sin and Death (sin and you die) has been replaced with The Law of the Spirit of Life (The Law with the decrees against us, for disobedience, has been covered; the definition of Grace leading to Eternal Life for obedience to the INTENT of The Law); so now, obedience to the Spiritual Intent of The Law leads to life. We are restored to perfect obedience through Mikveh and faith in The Yahushaic Covenant. We follow The Way set by Yahusha by following his example of being born again through Living Water and Spirit; disarming the powers and authorities that once held us captive to the fear of death!

We now have a spirit of comfort (the comforter) and are freed from our fear of death. The captives to the death decrees’ have been set free.

The Spirit of Fear has been replaced by The Spirit of Comfort

This is the fulfillment of the promise spoken through the Prophets:

Ezekiel 36
27 I will give you a new heart (for the INTENT of my Law and write my Law on it) and put a new spirit (of loving obedience) in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone (legalistic observance of The Law without love and fear of death ) and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you (to comfort you) and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws (out of love not fear of death).

Comfort means NO Condemnation!

Romans 8
1 Now there is no condemnation (referring to the Death Decrees/Certificate of Debt) for those in The Yahushaic Covenant. 2 For the Law of the Spirit of life in (covenant with) Yahusha the Messiah has made me free from the Law of Sin and Death (the death decrees in the Law are covered and paid in full). 3 For what the Law could not do (bring eternal life as promised) because the Law was made weak by our flesh (because we broke the Law and the decrees in the Law condemned us to death for disobedience), Yahuah did (provided Eternal Life as a free gift to those who try to keep the Law and fail i.e. Grace) by sending His own (firstborn) Son (of the DEAD/Resurrection) in the likeness of sinful flesh (born outside of any Divine Influence, opposed to Yahuah, and prone to sin g4561), on account of sin (to defeat it by living obedient to the intent of the Law and dying innocent through Mikveh): Yahusha (the Second Adam) condemned sin in the flesh (our genetic death sentence inherited from the First Adam), 4 that the righteous requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us (we are brought into total obedience to the Law through Mikveh too) who do not walk according to the flesh (opposed to Yahuah and prone to sin) but according to the Spirit (The spirit Paul is referring to is the spirit of loving obedience to the Intent of the Law as prophesied in Ezekiel 36). 5 For those who live according to the flesh (opposed to Yahuah and prone to sin) set their minds on the things of the flesh (the letter of the Law not the Intent of it... with a hard heart fearing death), but those who live according to the Spirit (of loving obedience to the intent of the Law with a heart of flesh), the things of the Spirit (the Law is Spiritually discerned through Intent Romans 7:14). 6 For to be carnally minded is death (you’ll be judged by the decrees in the Law), but to be spiritually minded is life and peace (because in loving obedience to the Law the decrees against you are covered by the blood of the lamb resulting in peace and a spirit of comfort). 7 Because the carnal mind is hatred (enmity) against Yahuah; for it is not subject to the (intent of the) Law of Yahuah, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please Yahuah (because they do not obey the Intent out of love, but the letter out of fear and live opposed to Yahuah and prone to sin).

Yahuah fulfills His Promise to Yahusha

What Paul is saying is that while we were being held captive to the death decrees and lost among the Gentiles, Yahuah made us alive together with Yahusha by canceling out the death decrees in the Law that amounted to a Certificate of Debt that demanded our death. This brings us comfort and peace.
Yahuah, as promised in Zachariah Chapter 3, fulfilled His promise to Yahusha to “forgive the sins of the world in one day” and Yahuah has taken the certificate of debt we owed Him out of the way, nailing it to the stake with Yahusha. As a result we now we live in comfort and obey out of love, not the fear of death.
What Sha’ul is referring to is the Renewed Covenant that Yahuah made with Yahusha. That detailed agreement is defined in Zachariah Chapter 3 when Yahuah personally consecrated Yahusha as High Priest. Let’s take a look at this agreement and we will see exactly how Yahusha fulfilled his end of the agreement and how Yahuah promised to (as Sha’ul said) cancel out the death decrees and “forgive us of our sin”.

The prophecy in Zachariah Chapter 3 gives us a front row seat to the conversation that happened between Yahuah and Yahusha in the desert after Yahusha was Mikveh’s by John and declared The Passover Lamb.

Yahusha then fled into the desert fulfilling the shadow of the scapegoat for 40 days/nights looking for confirmation from his Father. Lying on the desert floor starving, dehydrated, and on the verge of death we know Satan came to Yahusha and tempted him to take Jerusalem by force as “King”. This is where the vision in Zachariah Chapter 3 picks up. We have Yahusha lying on the desert floor suffering from dehydration and starvation looking like a “stick snatched from the fire of the hot sun” and Satan mad because Yahusha refused his offer. Now let’s listen in to the conversation where Yahuah confirms that Yahusha is the Messiah, and they agree on Yahusha’s role in the Renewed Covenant and Yahuah’s promise if Yahusha is faithful to his end of the agreement, which is to walk as High Priest with no sin:

Zechariah 3Yahuah’s consecration of Yahusha as High Priest, King of Kings, and Eternal Judge
1 Then he showed me Yahusha the high priest standing before the angel of Yahuah, and Satan standing at his right side to accuse him. 2 Yahuah (through His proxy the messenger before whom stood Yahusha and Satan) said to Satan, “Yahuah rebuke you, Satan! Yahuah, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebuke you (because Satan offered Yahusha to take Jerusalem by force)! Is not this MAN (not god) a burning stick snatched from the fire?” (Yahusha was starving and dying in the hot sun of the desert) 3 Now Yahusha was dressed in filthy clothes (metaphor of sin Isaiah 64:6) as he stood before the messenger of Yahuah. 4 The messenger said to those who were standing before him, “Take off his filthy clothes.” Then Yahuah said to Yahusha, “See (after taking off his filthy rags i.e. sin Isaiah 64:6), I have taken away your sin (Yahusha had just been Mikveh’d by John), and I will put fine garments (of the High Priest) on you.” 5 Then I (Yahuah) said (through the messenger), “Put a clean turban (of the Zadok High Priest) on his head.” So they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him (in the garments of the Zadok High Priest), while the messenger of Yahuah stood by. 6 The messenger of Yahuah gave this charge to Yahusha: 7 “This is what Yahuah Almighty says:

‘IF (Yahuah makes a conditional promise) you will walk in obedience to me (as High Priest) and keep my requirements (the Law and role of the Branch foretold in The Heavenly Scroll),

THEN (here is the promise if walks with no sin as High Priest Hebrew 4:15 and obeys the Will of Yahuah as the Branch) you will govern my house (King of Kings) and have charge of my courts (Eternal Judge/Mediator/Counselor), and I will give you a place (a throne as Melchi Tsedek) among these standing here.
8 “‘Listen, High Priest Yahusha, you and your associates seated (who came) before you (probably Adam, Enoch, Moses, Elijah, etc.), who (those seated before him) are men symbolic of things to come (they were all shadows of The Messiah, but were not the Branch): I am going to bring (you out of this desert as) my servant, the Branch (he is The Messiah foretold in The Heavenly Scroll). 9 See, the stone I have set in front of Yahusha! There are seven fountains of Living Water on that one stone, and I will engrave an inscription on it,’ says Yahuah Almighty (here is the promise of The Yahushaic Covenant fulfilled),‘AND I WILL REMOVE THE SIN OF THIS LAND IN A SINGLE DAY (the day Yahusha, in obedience, dies as Passover Lamb and brings peace to the Household of Yahuah).

Yahusha removed our “fear of death” or The Spirit of Fear and replaces that spirit with The Spirit of Comfort i.e. “The Comforter”.

Blessings Rav Sha’ul
